story

Square Cherry is a fun-loving and sense-seeking production “umbrella”, as I like to call it, set up by me, Naomi Ayres (producer). It is an umbrella under which I seek to make inspiring content, with inspiring people, and have some fun while we’re at it.

I have worked in production for over 10 years, and have loved the creative rollercoaster! I began working in commercials and music videos with Chief Productions, where I learnt my craft and found a love for great content. Since going freelance in 2014, I have worked with an array of companies (The Neighbourhood, The Mob, The Gate, McCann, Signal Films, MPC, Riceboy, Delaval Film, Rabble Post, Riff Raff Films) on a brilliant range of projects; from animations in Switzerland to a short film on a boat in Newcastle! I started Square Cherry because I wanted to put my stamp on the content I help to create, in whatever genre or format that might be, and to provide a platform for other brilliant filmmakers to do what they do best.

Since it’s creation, I have also discovered a real passion for training and developing new talent, and so have recently been leaning towards projects which offer these kind of opportunities, and am now part of the freelance teaching staff at the wonderful Manchester Screen and Film School.

I have worked all over the world, (from Capetown to Bolivia!), and am an avid traveller, but no matter where I’ve ventured, my heart has always been rooted in Manchester. I am a strong advocate of this production-friendly city, with it's competitive rates, friendly crew, flexible suppliers and the beautiful, varied filming locations on it's doorstep.

It has been a pleasure to see the Square Cherry umbrella across so many brilliant films and creative projects, and I can’t wait to see what is in store next.
